Hurricane Milton

Please be advised that Town of Highland Beach Police and Fire Rescue Departments are closely monitoring Hurricane Milton and are participating with Palm Beach County's Emergency Management Division, which has officially activated the Emergency Operations Center. Below are some key points that the public safety departments would like residents to be aware of:

  • Milton was upgraded to a hurricane at 2:00 PM EDT on October 6th and upgraded to a Category 4 storm this morning.
  • The National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts a 16% chance of tropical-force winds and a 6% chance of hurricane-force winds in Palm Beach County.

National Pedestrian Safety Month

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) joins the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA) in recognizing October as National Pedestrian Safety Month, reminding drivers and pedestrians that staying safe is a shared responsibility.

The Highland Beach Police Department will be conducting enforcement and providing education to motorists and pedestrians during this time.

Intracoastal Waterway Manatee Protection Zone

Please be advised that from October 1st through May 31st the speed limit in the Town's section of the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) will be reduced to 25 MPH. Manatee Protection Zones are established by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to restrict the speed and operation of vessels to protect manatees from harmful collisions with vessels and from harassment.
