FDOT SR-A1A Project Update - Engineering Meeting Takeaways
Dear Highland Beach Residents,
Today, the Town’s Public Works team and I met with FDOT design engineers and construction managers to discuss the drainage issues observed during this past weekend’s flooding event. FDOT indicated that additional swale and right-of-way grading still needs to be completed, which they believe will help alleviate some of the drainage problems. They asked for patience as this work is finalized and committed to meeting with us again once complete to reassess the problem areas.
FDOT also acknowledged that some flooding and ponding within the right-of-way and on the pathway may still occur, but they expect the situation to improve compared to what was experienced. We were further informed that the overall project completion date has now been pushed back to as late as October.
In response, we are working closely with our sanitary sewer lining contractor to coordinate with this new schedule. Importantly, when the Town begins the sewer lining project, no excavation will be required. The trenchless lining process will not disturb the newly constructed roadway or right-of-way, and it will extend the life of our sewer system by 50 years or more.
We will continue to share updates on the A1A project as new information becomes available. Please be assured that we are not only actively engaged with FDOT, but also fully committed to ensuring that the Town’s interests and concerns are properly addressed.
To express any comments or concerns directly to FDOT, please contact Community Outreach Specialist Melissa Readling at 772-577-8803 or mreadling@corradino.com or the FDOT District 4 Office at 954-777-4143.
Thank you for your continued patience and support.
Respectfully,
Marshall Labadie
Town Manager
